Test drinking water for lead with the Test and Fix Water for Kids program

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is partnering with school districts and child care centers across Colorado to test drinking water for lead, in compliance with House Bill 22-1358 signed in June.

CDPHE will provide school districts free training, testing, remediation, reimbursement and technical assistance through the new Test and Fix Water for Kids program. Supplies and guidance for testing will be available in October 2022, and the deadline for testing is May 31, 2023.

Before starting any sampling activities, school districts need to confirm their contact information, and verify any prior lead sampling by completing a survey. CDPHE sent an email with details to school administrators on Tuesday, August 23. If a district facilities manager didn’t receive the survey, email [email protected] with the facilities manager's name, school name and CDE school ID to request access to the survey or to discuss next steps with the program manager.
