Leadville, CO

Our nation’s highest town at 10,200 feet, Leadville is nestled between the Sawatch and Mosquito mountains. Just two hours away from Denver and Boulder and a three-hour drive to Colorado Springs or Grand Junction, Leadville’s proximity to metropolitan areas is a plus. The Climax Molybdenum Mine at the top of Fremont Pass has not opened yet, but is scheduled to open in 2012, promising to provide a greater tax base for the community. We currently have 1188 students, 70% of which are Hispanic. Two years ago the district was awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant allowing us to offer afterschool and enrichment programming for our students. Lake County High School received the Governor’s Distinguished Award for Growth in 2011.

Qualifications: high visibility and involvement in schools and community; understanding of school finance and ability to develop sound budgets; strong listening and communication skills; visionary leadership style that embraces interaction, collaboration and differing opinions; experience with cultural and ideological diversity; leadership in curriculum development and instructional improvement; a belief in the value of small school districts; ability to maintain focus on student needs when making decisions; knowledge of school governance and roles of superintendent and school board; previous experience as teacher and administrator in pre-K-12 education preferred; strong people skills with experience in building effective relationships; bilingual in Spanish is a plus, but not required; and solicits feedback about self and institution in order to grow as a leader. Salary: The board of education is offering a minimum salary of  $92,500.  A district benefits package will be provided. Date of employment:  July 1, 2012.

Custer County School District C-1
Westcliffe, CO

Custer County School District is nestled between the Wet Mountains and Sangre de Cristo Mountains of south central Colorado. It includes the neighboring towns of Silver Cliff and Westcliffe, with a countywide population of 4000. The Custer County School District serves 433 students from preschool through grade 12. The 69 staff members include:  34 teachers, 4 administrators, and 31 classified employees.  The districts boasts 100 percent highly qualified teachers in every core subject. The Southern Colorado BOCES has recognized Custer County District for superior administration and accomplishments for a model rural district. VOICE4C1 Program -- Community volunteers helping with math, reading, writing and science; assisting with college and career planning; helping with drama productions, the Invention Convention, Local History night, the playground and library, tutoring and mentoring.

Qualifications: effective communication skills demonstrated by listening, speaking and writing; commitment to visibility in the schools and the community; knowledge and successful experience in curriculum development, instruction and assessments in a standards- based educational system; understands school finance and school law; strong leadership skills with high integrity; a history of valuing the rural lifestyle and culture and community diversity; success with developing budgets and managing finances; focus on administrative decisions based on educating the whole student;  and ability to successfully build strong relationships with staff, parents, community members and the board of education through trust and mutual respect. Salary: The board of education is offering a salary range of $73,000 – $87,000.  A district benefits package will be provided. Date of employment:  July 1, 2012.

Morgan County School District Re-3
Fort Morgan, CO

Fort Morgan is located on the high plains of Colorado, 80 miles northeast of Denver. It is the largest community in northeast Colorado but is still considered a small town and a great place to raise a family. Morgan Community College, Fort Morgan Public Library, Community Concert series, Morgan County Arts Council, and the Military Historical Museum offer cultural opportunities and places for study. The district boasts an outstanding IT department and a districtwide focus on technology in the classroom.  Nearly every classroom is equipped with a SMART Board, document cameras, and ample student computers. The district offers the full continuum of age-appropriate classes from preschool to full-day kindergarten to traditional high school graduation pathways to post-secondary options. More than 500 dedicated employees serve approximately 3,000 students in eight schools. 

Qualifications: previous administrative experience required; demonstrated leadership skills; excellent communication skills; respect for the current work of the district while adding value through new innovations; knowledge of current K-12 educational trends and requirements; strong commitment to community engagement and involvement; willingness to embrace diversity; solid understanding of school finance; and integrity, honesty and fairness.  Salary: The board of education is offering a salary range of $110,000 – $130,000. A district benefits package will be provided. Date of employment: July 1, 2012.
