Weld County School District Re-3J is a growing school district conveniently located 30-40 minutes northeast of downtown Denver, 25-30 minutes south of Greeley, and just 30 minutes from Denver International Airport, with just a short commute to most big city offerings. Qualifications: collaborative and approachable; maintains high visibility in the schools and community;  has good listening and communication skills;  is politically savvy and has the ability to build and maintain relationships;  brings a broad K-12 background including classroom and administrative experience;  has a strong grounding in instruction, curriculum and assessment;  understands policy governance;  has current knowledge of school finance and school law;  is a firm, fair and consistent leader. Previous Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent experience required. Salary: $100,000-$135,000 dependent on experience.  Benefits: health, vision, and dental insurance is provided for the Superintendent and their immediate family. Date of employment:  July 1, 2009.

Alamosa School District RE11J is a rural school district in the center of the beautiful San Luis Valley of Colorado.  It is located 50 miles north of the New Mexico border and 280 miles south of the state capital of Denver. The district’s 2,111 students attend school in six separate school buildings spread geographically throughout the city.  Qualifications: exhibits excellent communication and listening skills;  has had balanced K-12 educational experiences, both classroom and administrative;  understands and empathizes with cultural diversity and poverty;  can build and maintain community partnerships for the benefit of kids; demonstrates sound skills in instructional leadership and fiscal management; will maintain high visibility in the schools and community; exhibits a proactive, common sense leadership style; is a strong advocate for all students and public education; is open, consistent and collaborative; values input from staff and believes in win-win negotiations.  Salary: a minimum salary of $105,000, as well as a competitive benefits package. Director of Communications

The Director of Communications position for the Colorado Association of School Boards offers an exceptional public relations professional the opportunity to apply a wide variety of skills in a small organization with a mission of serving school boards.

The perfect candidate
CASB is seeking a candidate who is a unique blend of strategist and communicator, who has broad experience in public relations and marketing, and who possesses a genuine desire to work with school boards.

A qualified candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications or related field
  • A minimum of five years experience in public relations
  • A thorough understanding of public relations and its role in and value to an organization
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written communications skills
  • Experience in planning, budgeting, implementing and evaluating PR programs
  • Experience writing copy for a broad range of communication vehicles
  • Experience using technology as a communications tool
  • The ability to analyze issues and trends to forecast their impact on the association and its membership
  • The ability to build a big-picture understanding of the association’s direction and values and to communicate them
  • Experience in K-12 education or associations preferred
  • Public relations accreditation a plus

The position
The Director of Communications communicates CASB’s purpose, benefits and services to Colorado board members and the general public; encourages participation in CASB services and events; develops systems to understand and anticipate member needs; and provides training and services designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of school board members.

Among other tasks, the Director of Communications:

  • Serves as a creative contributing member of CASB’s strategic team
  • Prepares and implements the overall communications plan and selected public relations campaigns
  • Writes and/or edits and supervises the production and distribution of the association’s communication tools, including publications and the Web site
  • Serves as a critical member of the conferences strategic and planning team and develops marketing strategies and promotional materials for all CASB-sponsored workshops and conferences
  • Assists other CASB staff with marketing and communications counsel and services
  • Provides field services, phone consultation and public relations communications training to member districts
  • Interfaces with the news media

Salary:  Compensation for this full-time position is commensurate with experience.
