UIP template rollover

Thank you to all districts that submitted school and district Unified Improvement Plans to be publicly posted this year. The plans have been published on SchoolView.org. The template rolled over from the 2020-21 template to the 2021-22 template on Friday, April 30. Now, all schools that log into the system will log into their 2021-22 UIP. Districts will continue to have access to all past plans, but the district, school, and AEC (spell out?) dashboards now default to the 2021-22 template.

Adjustments and enhancements to the template and related guidance may be made over the summer as requirements are reviewed. Customized directions for UIP completion will be made available in the prepopulated report in Section 1 of the UIP online system in July.

Exercising Ed-Flex to meet needs during COVID-19

Over two decades ago, Congress passed the Education Flexibility Partnership Act. Commonly referred to as “Ed-Flex,” this program allows the U.S. secretary of education to delegate to states the authority to waive certain federal education requirements that may impede local efforts to reform and improve education. Colorado was one of the original nine states approved for this authority and have been an Ed-Flex state since 2001. Information on Colorado Ed Flex is available here.

CDE understands that COVID has profoundly impacted schools and districts, shifting teaching and learning approaches, changing staffing structures, and forcing districts to rethink resource needs and budgets.

Under the authority of Colorado Ed Flex, CDE invites districts to consider allowable flexibilities and submit an Ed Flex application. Districts interested in waiving certain federal requirements based on local needs are encouraged to consider the Ed Flex guidance, which outlines three specific flexibilities that district leaders have identified as needs and provides information to facilitate application submission.

If you have questions, please reach out to your ESEA programs regional contact at CDE.

It's Colorado Teacher Appreciation Week

It's Colorado Teacher Appreciation Week and the perfect time to thank Colorado educators for their tremendous dedication, creativity and adaptability during an exceptionally difficult year. CDE invites everyone to participate by giving thanks to the deserving teachers in their schools and districts.

This week, share a post on social media using the hashtag #ThankATeacherCO. To help districts and schools celebrate, CDE created a number of resources to spread the word. Access social media graphics, sample posts and more on the Teacher Appreciation Week webpage.

There are also Teacher Appreciation Week resources available for parents and families.

Colorado Multi-Tiered System of Supports speaker series with Kent McIntosh

Please join us for Colorado Multi-Tiered System of Supports: Leveraging Existing Systems to help Pave the Way to Recovery on Friday, May 14, at 11 a.m. Transitioning back to school during and following the global health pandemic requires intentional and prioritized efforts to address health and safety, social and emotional needs, and behavioral and academic growth. To achieve such results requires the ability to restart classrooms and schools in a manner that all students, families, and educators are supported effectively, efficiently, and relevantly. This webinar will highlight how Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework can be utilized as a lever to accomplish desired results.

Registration for the session is available here.  Additional information can also be found via the training page here.
