Legislative Info

CASB plays a critical role in presenting the local school board "agenda" to state and federal policymakers and other groups.

The member-driven legislative program begins with resolutions proposed by school boards and recommended for adoption by the CASB Legislative Resolutions Committee. Then, one delegate from each member school board participates in the annual CASB Delegate Assembly where resolutions are discussed, sometimes amended and either adopted or rejected by the delegates. Afterward, the CASB Board of Directors sets legislative priorities for the year based on adopted resolutions.

Throughout the legislative session, CASB receives direction from the Legislative/Resolutions Committee, which analyzes and makes recommendations on proposed legislation. In addition, the CASB Legislative Network, made up of one representative from each local board, provides feedback and meets with legislators during the session.

Information on CASB's legislative action is distributed through periodic Legislative Updates and Alerts, through BillBoard, CASB's legislative newsletter, on this web site and through our new Twitter updates at twitter.com/CASBCapTweets.

At the federal level, CASB works with a Federal Relations Network – school board members and superintendents from across the state-to present local school district priorities to Colorado congressional representatives.

You can become involved in CASB's advocacy efforts! CASB is always interested in helping school boards and districts tell their stories to legislators.
