2011 CASB Annual Convention
We hope you enjoyed the 71st Annual CASB Convention!
This year, we focused on sharing the challenges we face with the power of partnership. Nearly 1,000 school board members, superintendents and other education leaders gathered Dec. 8-11 in Colorado Springs for four days of information, inspiration and conversation.
Attendees heard from state, national and international education leaders. Colorado's Commissioner of Education Robert Hammond, Gov. John Hickenlooper and former West Virginia Gov. Bob Wise were among those who spoke at this annual event. Many of these sessions were captured on video, and some of those will be posted on this site soon, along with other post-Convention information.
DVDs of the 1st and 3rd general sessions are available for purchase by downloading the DVD Order Form. Watch the Governor's special session and the 4th general session below.

Gov. Hickenlooper addresses attendees during special session
CASB members welcomed Gov. John Hickenlooper during a special session Friday morning. The governor discussed education's economic importance and other topics such as Proposition 103, teacher effectiveness and Colorado's Race to the Top application. He also fielded a number of audience questions, including one on using his popularity to reform Colorado's constitution and fix school finance in the state. This marked the first year Hickenlooper attended the CASB Convention, and we were glad to have him. Keynote speakers make audience laugh, think
Two influential keynote speakers also discussed our theme. Garrison Wynn used humor to demonstrate ways we can influence people and encourage partnerships. Richard Gerver, who flew from the UK to join our Convention, broadened our perspective of education and showed us ways we can empower our students for learning today and in their futures.
